Lisa Chapland  is an associate in the Princeton, N.J. office of Hill Wallack LLP and a member of the firm’s Municipal Law and General Litigation Practice Groups.

Ms. Chapland focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and has experience in various areas of the law including defamation, election law, land use, environmental and regulatory issues, family law, public bidding, and the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act.

Representative Matters

Ms. Chapland’s practice has included the following highlights:

  • Obtained ex parte temporary restraints freezing accounts of challengers who violated election regulations by failing to report contributions and expenditures
  • Counseled clients on public bidding challenges and contracts
  • Counseled commercial clients on state and federal environmental regulations regarding development in environmentally sensitive areas, affordable housing obligations, CAFRA and wetlands issues, and other land use issues
  • Developed government relations overviews and recommendations for clients regarding legislation and public policy issues
  • Prepared arguments on behalf of debt collectors sued under the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act
  • Counsels clients on various issues related to the preparation of testamentary documents, special needs trusts and property settlement agreements

Election Experience

  • Developed a comprehensive training program and oversaw election day volunteer attorney networks, managing over 80 attorneys statewide and assisting candidates, political parties and voters with various legal issues regarding Constitutional rights and election-related issues
  • Advised attorneys on arguments to present in court including issues related to canvassers rights to canvass in private communities, the review of signatures on absentee ballot applications, and voting rights
  • Counseled candidates and political campaigns on a variety of issues including balloting issues, state and federal campaign finance laws, residential requirements for legislative candidates

Ms. Chapland is admitted to practice in New Jersey (2007), New York (2007) and the District of Columbia (2007). She earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law, and her B.A. in Journalism and Mass Media, and Political Science from Rutgers University, Douglass College. Ms. Chapland is also fluent in American Sign Language.
