Laura A. Schaff is an associate in the Princeton, N.J. office of
Hill Wallack LLP and
a member of the Trial and Insurance Defense and Insurance Coverage practice groups.
Ms. Schaff concentrates her practice in complex insurance coverage, contractual
disputes, catastrophic injuries, and wrongful death in a broad variety of cases. She is a
trial attorney with extensive experience handling all aspects of litigation, including
multi-million dollar jury and non-jury trials, ranging from simple personal injury claims
to complicated wrongful death matters in both state and federal court. Before entering
private practice, she was a Deputy Attorney General of the State of New Jersey in the
Tort Litigation Section of the Division of Law, Office of the Attorney General.
Representative Matters
- Two week jury trial, secured a unanimous favorable jury verdict in under 20 minutes in a high profile catastrophic injury case based on expert testimony
- Jury trial, obtained a favorable settlement in a high damages catastrophic injury case after one week of trial based on testimony elicited from Plaintiff on cross-examination
- Jury trial, in another high profile case, obtained a favorable settlement after Plaintiff’s key evidence was suppressed
- Successfully disposed of numerous cases on motions for Summary Judgment, including several wrongful death matters
Leadership
- First Place Society of Professional Journalist Award, for Presidential Election Coverage, 2001
- New Jersey Daily Newspaper Women’s Prize, 2001
- The 50th Anniversary Peace Medal from the United Nations, presented by the Secretary General of the United Nations for work as an International Peace Ambassador to the United Nations, 1996
- Professional Solo Concert Violinist, performed at the White House for President Bill Clinton, in the Vatican for Pope John Paul II for his Ash Wednesday Celebration, at the Opening Ceremonies of the Peace Memorial in Hiroshima, Japan for Emperor Akihito and Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama, and around the world raising money globally as an International Peace Ambassador to the United Nations.
Ms. Schaff is admitted to practice in New Jersey (2006) and to the Federal District Court for the District of New Jersey (2006). She received her J.D. from Syracuse University, College of Law with a corporate counsel certificate. She was the law clerk to New Jersey State Superior Court Presiding Judge, The Honorable Frank M. Ciuffani, P.J.Ch. and to Connecticut Superior Court Judge, The Honorable John A. Keyes, J.S.C. She received her B.A. with Honors from Rutgers University, Douglass College and graduated Valedictorian from the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies with a double major in Journalism and Mass Media and Communication.
